NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Southern Miss indoor track and field teams turned in the season best performances while competing at the Mayo Invitational Friday and Saturday.

Highlighting the Golden Eagle performances was Tori Bowie who finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.52, while following that performance with a school-record time of 24.24 in the 200 meters to finish third. She also recorded a jump of 5.40m I17-8.75) in the long jump.

Karla Thurmond ran a season-best time of 7.74 in the 60-meter dash, while posting a time in the 200 meters with a time of 25.03. Cheris Fletcher placed eighth in the 400 meters with a time of 56.29. Carmen Dennis and Terria Wheeler ran times of 58.26 and 58.42, respectively, in the 400 meters.

Zuna Portillo-Rodriguez ran a time of 5:42.61 in the one-mile run and 11:29.28 in the 3,000 meters. Sarah Omotayo recorded a time of 9.24 in the 60-meter hurdles.

Ashley May placed third in the long jump with a jump of 6.05m (19-10.25), while finishing second in the triple jump with a jump of 12.39m (40-7.75). May also ran a time of 7.81 in the 60-meters. Jessica Cheeks was eighth with a jump of 11.93m (39-01.75).

Suesanna Williams recorded a throw of 13.42m (44-00.50) in the shot and 16.05m (52-08) in the weight throw. Jannie Collier had a distance of 10.87m (35-8), while Candace Burgard had a throw of 10.72m (35-2) in the shot. Collier registered a throw of 14.23m (46-8.25) in the weight throw with Burgard recording a throw of 13.95m (45-9.25).

 

 

The 4x400 meter relay time recorded a time of 3:57.92.

Mario Spann ran a season-best time of 6.92 in the 60-meter dash and 22.22 in the 200 meters. Gary Ellis and Cordell Kinn ran sub-50 400 meters, posting times of 49.96 and 49.97, respectively.

Vincent Tanui ran a time of 4:23.88 in the mile run, while posting a time of 8:27.95 in the 3,000 meters.

Myreon Sartin and Leonard McLeggon both recorded a jump of 2.00m (6-6.75) in the high jump. McLeggon registered a season-best mark in the long jump with a jump of 7.09m (23-3.25). Ellis recorded a mark of 13.76m (45-1.75) in the triple jump.

Aaron Ammes posted a mark of 14.56m (47-9.25) in the shot and 15.04m (49-4.25) in the weight throw.

"Traveling to the Mayo Invitational proved to be very beneficial for us," Coach Kevin Stephen said. "Not only is it the best facility we have competed on but also the highest level of competition. I am encouraged by the way our athletes rose to the challenge and turned out great performances."

The team will return to action when they compete in the LSU Purple Tiger, Feb. 20.
