No. 11 UCF Track and Field Competes at Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Several members of the No. 11 UCF track and field team made strides with top-five finishes at the Gator Invitational at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center Thursday.
Sophomore Precious Ogunleye impressed in the weight throw as four of her six attempts were better than her personal best. She came in second-place with a throw of 18.34m/60-02. Freshman Megan Patterson improved upon her performance from last week's season opener, throwing 16.46m/54-00 for fifth place.
The pair also gave solid efforts in the shot put as Ogunleye finished third with a toss of 13.68m/44-10.75 and Patterson clinched fifth with a throw of 13.19m/43-03.25.
Freshman Shemael Hamilton posted two third-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump. She was the leading jumper in her flight of the long jump with a mark of 5.49m/18-00.25 and followed that by improving upon last week's performance in the triple jump with a leap of 11.39m/37-04.50.
Freshman Amy Ankli paced five Knights in the 3000 meters while shedding 16 seconds off last week's season opener to cross the line in 10:29.04 for fourth place.
Junior Erica Winston jetted to a third-place finish in the 800 meters with the second-best time of her career, 2:14.12.
The Knights will be back in action Saturday at the Auburn Invitational in Birmingham, Ala., competing against programs including No. 1 Clemson, No. 17 Georgia and No. 24 Auburn. Live results will be available via deltatiming.com.
