MBB: March 10 Players of the Week

DALLAS – Charlotte senior guard Jon Davis filled up the stat sheet, averaging 28.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.5 steals in his last two games as a 49er, to earn the final C-USA Player of the Week honor this season. WKU big man Charles Bassey nabbed his record-tying 10th C-USA Freshman of the Week award after scoring 21 points and grabbing 11 rebounds against UTSA for a league-leading 15th double-double. Awards are chosen by a vote from a media panel representing the 14 member schools. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Top of the World.
 
Player of the Week
JON DAVIS, CHARLOTTE
Senior, 6-3, 200, G, Upper Marlboro, Maryland
Davis averaged 28.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.0 blocked shot in the final two games of his 49ers career last week.  He registered his 94th and 95th double-figures scoring games and the 49th and 50th 20-plus points scoring games of his career. Davis scored 29 points while going 8-for-15 from the field and 8-for-10 from the free throw line against Rice in Halton Arena on March 6. Then, he scored a game-high 28 points, including 14 straight points for the 49ers during a decisive second half run which led to the 49ers victory at Rice on March 9. Davis also grabbed a career-high-tying nine rebounds at Rice. For the week, he shot 52.9 percent from the field, 44.4 percent from beyond the three-point arc and 72.2 percent from the free throw line. This is his second Player of the Week honor this season and the fourth in his career.

Freshman of the Week
CHARLES BASSEY, WKU
Freshman, 6-11, 245, C, Lagos, Nigeria
Bassey recorded his C-USA-leading 15th double-double of the season in WKU’s lone game last week, an 81-76 overtime loss to UTSA. Bassey finished with a team-high 21 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks, netting 7 of 9 (77.8%) shots from the field and 7 of 8 (87.5%) free throws. He also grabbed one steal and was one minute shy of his career high with 38. Bassey passed NBA veteran Courtney Lee for the second-most points ever by a WKU freshman with 464 in the outing. He was also named last week 1 of 5 national finalists, including the only freshman, for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award.
