After winning a pair of individual events, including posting the best time in C-USA this season as part of a team victory over defending league champion FIU, Rice senior Kaitlyn Swinney earns this week’s C-USA Swimmer of the Week award.  FIU freshman Rachel Foord earned first place finishes in two-of-three matches to earn the C-USA Diver of the Week award.
 
SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

Rice senior Kaitlyn Swinney won a pair of individual events and posted the best time in Conference USA as the Owls defeated defending league champion FIU in a dual meet Friday, Oct. 27 at the neutral setting of New Orleans, La.  Swinney first won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.96 that is the C-USA best mark in the event so far this season (and was also the best time of the day at Tulane’s four-team multi-meet that included the University of Denver and the host Green Wave).  Swinney then led a 1-2 Rice finish in the 200-individual medley with a time of 2:04.25 that was just-off her C-USA leading season-best time  of 2:04.12.  The individual wins helped Rice defeat FIU 136.5-to-84.5 Friday, but the Owls weren’t finished.  On Saturday the Blue & Gray had a W-L split in the remaining meets respectively with Tulane and Denver.  Her 56.48 in the 100-backstroke was the fourth-best time of the meet, and her 4:25.16 in the 400-IM was fifth overall.
 
DIVER OF THE WEEK
Rachel Foord, FIU, Fr., Melbourne, Australia
FIU freshman Rachel Foord took first in the diving event in two of three meets over the week at Dual-A-Pool-Ooza in New Orleans.  On Saturday, Foord took first in the 3-meter springboard with a personal-best and NCAA Zone-qualifying score of 324.20.  Earlier that day she set a person-best and Zone score of 277.60 versus host Tulane.  On Friday, Foord was second only to teammate Brooke Bouchard in the 1-meter event, with a score of 259.25 against Rice to start the weekend.
