WBK: Jan. 16 Players of the Week

IRVING, Texas – FIU guard Kristian Hudson and Southern Miss guard Brittanny Dinkins earned C-USA Co-Player of the Week honors after the pair put together multiple outstanding showings over the past week. Hudson capped off a 55-minute performance against visiting UTEP with a 33-foot buzzer-beater to win the game in triple overtime. Dinkins averaged an impressive 28.5 points per game along with 4.5 board and six assists in Southern Miss’ two contests against Charlotte and Old Dominion. The C-USA Freshman of the Week award went to FIU guard Alexis Gordon. The Palm Bay, Florida, product scored 15 points in the wild triple-overtime win and was 6-of-12 (.500) from three-point range on the week. Awards are chosen by a vote from a panel representing the 14 member schools.

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KRISTIAN HUDSON, FIU
Sophomore, Guard | Birmingham, Alabama

Hudson hit a 33-foot buzzer-beater to give FIU the 88-87 victory in its first-ever triple-overtime game Thursday against UTEP. She broke the school record by playing in all 55 minutes and during the game, hit her 19th consecutive free throw, another school record, in the win. She posted a career-high 35 points, including the game-winning bucket, her first 3-pointer of the game, and set career highs for points, field goals made (11), free throws made (12) and attempted (13), and tied her career high with 10 assists for her first season double-double. The victory, which gave FIU is second-straight at home for the first time since 2013, also put the Panthers into a 2-0 home start, a feat never before accomplished as a C-USA member school. Hudson achieved a pair of double-doubles for the week when she posted an 11-point and career-high 10-rebound performance on Saturday in a nine-point loss to UTSA. In two games for the week, she averaged 23.0 points in 45.5 minutes played, 7.5 free throws, 9.0 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game. Hudson is second in the league in minutes played overall, but is the only player averaging over the regulation 40 minutes-per-game in conference games only. She is ninth in scoring and fifth in assists in conference games only, while 14th in scoring, sixth in assists overall among C-USA student-athletes this season. It is the first weekly award in Hudson’s career.

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
BRITTANNY DINKINS, SOUTHERN MISS
Senior, Guard | Miami, Florida

Dinkins performed masterfully in Southern Miss’ first home game in over 30 days. She posted a career-high 32 points along with eight assists, five rebounds and a single-game record-tying 10 steals in the victory over Old Dominion. Against Charlotte, Dinkins scored 25 points, her third-straight game with 20+ points, collected four rebounds and nabbed six steals. She sank four 3-pointers and brought her career total to 135. Dinkins sits fifth in the record books for treys made by a Lady Eagle and her 57 points in the last two contests positioned her at 18th on the Southern Miss all-time scoring list. Dinkins is first in the league in steals (4.0), fourth in scoring (17.8) and eighth in assists (4.2).  It is the Miami product’s first C-USA Player of the Week award and the third weekly award of her career (C-USA Freshman of the Week – Nov. 11, 2013 & Jan. 27, 2014).

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ALEXIS GORDON, FIU
Freshman, Guard | Palm Bay, Florida

Gordon played a career-high 52 minutes after scoring 15 points in FIU’s 88-87 victory in its first-ever triple-overtime game Thursday against UTEP. She scored six points in 31 minutes in the Saturday home loss to UTSA. Gordon leads FIU and is third in C-USA in three-point percentage (.383) and fourth in 3-pointers made per game (2.4). She shot .500 in both games for the week from beyond the arc for the Panthers, who are fourth in the league in long-range percentage (.332) this season. It is the first C-USA weekly award in Gordon’s career.
