Chris Grant was named Director of Sports Services at Conference USA in August 2012. Grant will serve as the primary sport administrator for six (6) Conference sports: cross country, women's soccer, men's soccer, indoor track & field, women's golf, and outdoor track & field. He will also serve as the liaison to the Conference USA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Grant comes to C-USA from Wright State University in Dayton, OH as Assistant Athletics Director. He also spent three years at WSU as the Special Assistant to the Athletic Director.
At WSU, Grant oversaw student-athlete Housing, student-athlete Development, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, athletic department special events and was responsible for secondary oversight of the men's golf and women's track and field programs. He also assisted the Director of Athletics with capitol campaign projects, special projects, and analytical research information.
Prior to WSU, Grant worked at AT&T in Atlanta for two years as a Small Business Account Executive. Before AT&T, Grant was involved with Southern University for two years and served as a Special Assistant to the Executive Director for the university's museum of art. While at Southern, Grant also served as a graduate assistant coach for the men's basketball program in 2004. He aided with practice and individual skill development, camps, coordinated team travel and established community outreach programs. Off the court, Grant assisted with planning and implementing departmental development and marketing events.
A 2004 graduate of Kentucky State with a bachelor's degree in public administration, Grant was a free safety for the Thorobreds football team and an Honorable Mention All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honoree. He earned a master's degree in public administration with a concentration in finance from Southern in 2006.
Grant is the son of Stillman College basketball coach, Michael Grant and Charmane Grant. His uncle, Gary Grant, was the Big Ten Player of the Year in 1988 at the University of Michigan. Gary Grant was the 15th overall player chosen in the 1988 NBA draft and played with four NBA Teams in 14 seasons.
