Conference USA Board of Directors Conclude Annual Meeting

IRVING, Texas - The annual meeting of the Conference USA Board of Directors concluded Monday in as the Board met with C-USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky and Executive Associate Commissioner Judy MacLeod.
The Board discussed a variety of topics over the session, focusing on television, postseason football, scheduling and a set of abiding conference principles moving forward. The Board discussed potential expansion models and elected to remain, for the foreseeable future, with its current membership plan which will feature 14 institutions in 2014-15: Charlotte, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Tech, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Old Dominion, Rice, Southern Miss, UAB, UTEP, UTSA and Western Kentucky.
"We are thrilled with our membership going forward and excited about our collective potential," Banowsky said. "Our organization has established a great foundation in an increasingly stable environment. The system has found calm waters, which is helpful to all of us."
The Directors developed a working set of principles to establish expectations and guide the operations of the Conference:
In discussing student-athlete welfare, there was a strong interest in, and commitment to, developing more in-depth studies and policies to make sure the safety and health of the student-athletes remain paramount.
Finally, sites for several 2013-14 Conference USA Championships were confirmed by the Board of Directors. Field sizes for several championships were also changed with 16 teams participating in the men's and women's basketball championships, 12 teams advancing to the volleyball championship, 10 for women's soccer and seven for men's soccer.
